A taste of Crete

Soft cheese, wild herbs, honey and olive oil. A few simple things, made the Cretan way.

Myzithra

A soft, fresh cheese made from the whey of sheep’s or goat’s milk, and one of the most familiar cheeses on the island. Mild and creamy, it is the heart of our sweet kalitsounia.

Honey

Honey is part of everyday cooking and baking in Crete, often made from thyme and the wild flowers of the hills. A little goes a long way in a sweet pie.

Olive oil

Olive oil is the everyday fat of the Cretan kitchen, from the dough to the pan. Olives have been grown on the island for thousands of years.

Wild greens and herbs

Wild greens, called horta in Greek, are gathered in the hills and fields and are a staple of the Cretan table. They give our savory pies their fresh, green flavour.
